Integrating Argumentative Writing
All social studies classes will work on argumentative writing skills through document-based questions related to their particular social studies subject. The goal is for students to be able to make a valid argument using evidence from the documents and quality reasoning.

The AP Government & Politics Political Party Project gives students the ability to understand the political process and the role of parties in elections. Students work in groups, creating their own political parties and writing a party platform. Once the party is created, they will run a presidential campaign and devise a strategy to gain the 270 electoral votes needed to become president of the United States. Each group is required to make TV ads, create party slogans and posters, as well as find financial backers for their campaign. The project culminates with a presidential/vice-presidential debate in front of several members of the student body. Here are some pictures from last year’s debate.
